Lichfield City Cyclists Make Solid Start to Cyclo Cross Season PDF Print E-mail

start youth race.jpgLast Sunday was the start of the West Midlands Cyclo Cross League with the first event in the highly technical Pitcher Oak Woods in Redditch. Lichfield City Cycling Club were there supporting this event and most of the Lichfield riders got a good start with some exceptional performances.

alexredditch02.jpgIn the U8 event a special mention for Alex Coleston-Shields who has just joined the club and took part in his first ever cyclo-cross event and as he is only 6 finished in a very respectable 10th place. Connor Smith continued to show great promise with an exceptional performance to finish in 1st place U8 (beating a lot of U10s) with Josie Nelson in 4th (second girl). Lucy Nelson was our only U10 competitor and was placed 6th (second girl).

U12 saw Sophie Capewell take 6th place and second girl in an event dominated by Leicester’s  Charlotte Broughton.

dsc_1009z.jpgThe Youth race was on a very testing course and the results are split into U14 and U16. In the U14s we had a number of competitors with William Davies starting to show promise in 10th place, Emily Nelson in 12th, Joshua Nelson 13th and Emily Capewell 18th. Perhaps the performance of the day went to Bertie Newey who stormed round the course to take 3rd place U16, showing every bit of the potential we all know he has.

dsc_1023z.jpgIn the vet/jun/lady event Mick Davies and Gary Gee battled round with each other most of the way finishing in 19th and 17th respectively. However in this event Stuart Clayton a junior finished in 6th place overall and Ian Wright who is not a member of the club but has close associations with us finished 2nd overall.

In the senior event Lee Westwood finished a very respectable 10th.
