Lichfield City Cycling Star Emily Nelson wins the girls U14 Category in the National Trophy Series in Derby this week-end while other Lichfield riders gain valuable experience at the national Level.
Emily finished in 7th place overal but first U14 rider ahead of long time rival Grace Garner. After a break by Emily and Grace, series leader Ffion James was unable to keep up and finished well down the field. At about the half way mark Grace got away after Emily hit a pole of the immoveable kind. This allowed Grace a 30m lead which she held until making a mistake towards the end at one of the hurdles. At this point Emily got past her and away and held the lead until the end just failing to gain more points in an exciting sprint with an U16 girl to the line. Bertie Newy who is topping the WMCCL had a good race but came off a few times on a very slippy surface caused by light rain, but the experience gained will be valuable. Also gaining valuable experience and racing for Lichfield City were Will Davies and Joshua Nelson. Ian Wright who has a long association with the club won the Vets(50+) event in style. There was also an U12 event in which two of our younger riders took part. All riders were classed as U12, even the younger ones and both Lucy Nelson and Sarah Marnoch performed well.
