dsc_0126wp.jpgBoxing Day saw the traditional Kenilworth cyclo-cross meet, which was well attended. Any ice left on the course was salted away for the competitors but the spectators had to deal with a massive slab of treacherous ice in the main viewing area.

dsc_0112w.jpgIn the U12 race Harry Yates managed to get away in forth position even though he found himself starting on the second grid. As the race progressed he slowly knocked off all the leading riders but he went into the last lap in second place enough behind Joe Deakin for the spectators to think the race was over. dsc_0108w.jpgHowever the first rider to the top of the steps before the finish line was Harry with a well deserved win. Harry is both a good sprinter and is now being recognised for endurance as well. He is another cyclist who came to cycling after doing competitive swimming. There are a few young Lichfield cyclists who also swim competitively and there can be no doubt that the swimming greatly enhances the cycling endurance.

dsc_0110w.jpgThe U10 race saw 3 Lichfield cyclists take part (Emily Yates as well as Lucy and Josie Nelson). Unfortunately there wasn't an U8 seperate result and although the 2 younger riders did exceptionally well they were up against much stronger 9yr olds - their time will come. One of the stronger 9yr olds was Lucy Nelson, another swimmer, who battled hard throughout to try and get into the silver medal position but was just beaten into 3rd place by James Alexander. dsc_0105w.jpgMatthew Shaw won the race having led from start to finish, but he only had a 10 second lead at the end which made for a very exciting race.
